San Diego product liability attorneyAs San Diego product liability attorneys, we are concerned that the government investigation into fires in Toyota vehicles continues to grow. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently announced that 600,000 Camrys and other vehicles are now included in the probe.

In total, 1.4 million cars and SUVs from the 2007 to 2009 Toyota model years are being investigated fires that start in the vehicle doors. All of the vehicles use the same power window switch in the driver’s door. The switches can overheat and cause fires, according to the NHTSA.

At this point, Toyota and safety regulators have received 161 complaints of fires involving the vehicles. In addition, there have been nine reported injuries.

NHTSA has upgraded the investigation to “engineering analysis,” which can lead to a recall. In the meantime, Toyota is advising owners who smell smoke or feel heat in the doors to call their dealers or take them in for an inspection.
